When It Comes to Romance, Are You Led by Venus or Mars? (10)

2009 | Dec 6

By Dr. Khaleghl Quinn

This month we will focus on the Venus influence in your love life.

You do not necessarily have to have an astrological birth chart at your fingertips to know the following about yourself but since you are here you do!

The Venus Influence in Dating and Relating

The placement of Venus in your chart shows you your values, what is important to you, your sense of beauty, art, sensuality, elegance, and social justice. When you look at your birth chart, Venus is the symbol that looks like the woman's symbol.  It is a cross with a circle connected to the top of it.  See where it is in the counter-clockwise flow of numbered houses.  They begin on the left just under the horizontal bar that separates the upper and lower halves of the chart. There are twelve segments, or houses.  Now look to see which segment Venus is in.  Then look for the Mars symbol.  It looks like the male symbol, a circle with an arrow connected to it.  If Venus is in a higher numbered house than Mars, for example, Venus is in the tenth house and Mars is in the sixth, your love life will be ruled by Venus.  With this placement it is likely that you will have a less traditional relationship.

Ironically, in many ways a traditional relationship can be deeply desired, but time and time again you will find it is lacking in bringing you satisfaction.  There will be a sense of something missing, a sense of wanting something more.  Your biological urge to merge with another is certainly there including the desire for the house with the white picket fence and a family. However there needs to be a broader spectrum of personal expression when Venus is ahead of Mars.  You will be driven to bring beauty into the world, to make the world a better place.

Prominent Venus makes for an artist's and a healer's heart. You are drawn to teaching, public speaking, art, justice, writing, music, counseling, peace-making, the healing professions, and humanitarianism.

If the spiritual and/or social improvement elements are missing for the Venus-approach person, and this is poignant, the relationship can become a source of personal agony, and even a source of embarrassment.  One soon feels trapped emotionally gasping for air like a fish out of water.  Venus is a jealous demanding mistress when she is the leader in your chart. Your relationship to making the world a better place must be the first relationship that all others fit into.  Her wishes must be attended to, first and foremost.  Otherwise She will wreak havoc on any relationship.

If you have tried the traditional approach to relationships and find it is just not satisfying, let yourself off the hook, blame it on Venus, and take heart in letting Venus have her way with you.  You are on a mission and you have to heed the call. This mission will become your cozy nest that goes everywhere with you, your port in the storms of romance, kind of like you and your shadow, but really, it is more like you and your beacon!

The beautiful irony in this Venus scheme is that, once you establish your role in improving the world as your first priority, you can have everything you wish for in a relationship, including that white picket fence . . . and more.

Partners who are drawn to you because of your personal values, and your Venus heart, rather than simply placing you into a traditional role have hope for finding an ever-flowing romantic chemistry.

Self awareness is the key to attracting your best match whether it is for a short-term adventure, an erotic season, or a lifetime commitment.

If Mars is a lesser number than Venus, does it mean your relationship is more apt to be "traditional?"

  6. Dr. Khaleghl Quinn says:

Thank you major1mom for your question.
If Mars is a lesser number (degree) than Venus and Venus is still further along in the counter-clockwise flow of the chart, the blog applies. You are not likely to have a traditional relationship, until you are secure in your gift to the making the world a better place in the appropriate magnitude and scale. This is further reinforced if your rising sign is ruled by Venus. Such is the case with a Taurus or Libra Rising Sign.
If Mars is "ahead" of Venus and Venus is a higher degree, say ten or more, a traditional relationship will be in the stars though there will be a desire to bring healing and beauty into the world. In this case, the priority would be to have this desire fit into the relationship. Even with the higher degree of Venus the major motive in relating would be to be in a traditional relationship. This would be mitigated by having a Venus-ruled rising sign (Taurus, Libra).

Templeone, Thank you for your compliment and your question about the planet that impacts spirituality in a relationship. In my next blog, I will be talking about the Jupiter-Mars link. While Venus has to do with the what we want in relating and dating, Mars brings in the how, Pluto invites us into the unconscious needs of the soul, and Jupiter describes the why. Jupiter has to do with our outlook on life. Generally, Jupiter in a water sign will include nurturing and sensuality in an outlook; in earth, physicality and practicality; in fire, creativity, playfulness, adventure, luxury and romance; in air, intellect, philosophy, fluent communication, and a need for space and freedom. Be sure to read the next blog for more information on this. You can also let me know where your Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Pluto are in your chart and I can give you a more specific answer.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF MAN VENUS IS CONJUNCT A WOMAN'S MARS, OR IS IT BETTER TO BE VICE VERSE.

  10. Hilary says:

There is no better or worse only what it is. The planet of Love ( Venus) conjunct the Planet of Passion ( Mars) is usually gonna work out pretty well no matte what. Provided you don't have some super challenging aspects in there like a Saturn square or whackadoo mother in law ;)
