While Venus puts out the magnetic pheromones in our charts based on what is important to us, through our values, Mars is unmistakably the juice that launches romance into action. Mars shows us how we act on what is important, how we typically behave in romance. Mars is assertive and can be aggressive. Ruler of Aries, hot Mars gives us the way to regenerate passion. It is the life blood of personal power. It shows us how to survive, how to heal ourselves, how to promote ourselves through having babies, the competitive spirit, and courage. Mars is the energy within us that fuels hope. It is energy. It is the warrior, the appetite, hunter, the gatherer. It is physical, raw, animal passion.
In my last blog on Venus I mentioned that you don't necessarily have to be looking at your chart to resonate to the general concepts presented here. But if you do have your chart, look to see which house and sign it is in. If it is ahead of Venus in the counter-clockwise flow of your chart your approach to romance is destined to be physical and most likely to be biologically driven. No mysterious ideals here! A down to earth meat, or tofu, and potatoes approach gets things moving in the romantic direction. When Mars leads in your chart, it is easy to fit into society's expectations. Traditions give you a sense of security. You are likely to be at ease in professions such as the military, sports, public service, law enforcement, martial arts, corporations, the government, business and financial institutions.
The potency of each element is increased by Mars. If Mars is in an earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) you will be even more physical. Here's a caveat: Virgo is the most analytical of the earth signs. When Mars is in Virgo any form of analysis is a turn-on, though, generally, headiness is simply not welcomed when Mars is thrust into the earth element. In air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) romance gets activated through your mind and intellect. Crisp verbal and visual communication will ignite your passion, so will wit, a little distance, personal image presentation, literature, letters, art, film, and internet correspondence. Mars is at home in its native fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius). Bring in adventure, spontaneity, creative expression, play, humor, the story, regal splendor, and the rest is history. In fluid water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) Mars becomes super sexy, steamy, sensual, mysterious, intuitive. An irresistible hypnotic spell is cast in the magical alchemy when the fire inherent in Mars asserts itself in water.
If Mars and Venus are close to each other in the same sign such as having both in Gemini (when they are within ten degrees of each other), you have the flexibility to follow either or both in relationships. This is an appropriate moment to mention that both Venus and Mars-driven relationships are of equal importance. We need both. Without Mars there would be no population. Without Venus there would be no love, no drive toward personal development.
The original meaning of martial arts is: to direct one's energy to a fruitful end.
Enter the hero/heroine, Jupiter. Jupiter's reign in the zodiac is in late November and most of December. We are under its influence now. Jupiter brings us joy by hooking us up with the bigger picture through our ability to travel physically, mentally and spiritually.
With Jupiter's influence in our charts Cupid's arrow becomes our beliefs, our attitudes, our outlook on life. As many of us know these days, our beliefs, or lack thereof, have a way of transporting us into our experience of life. Jupiter brings optimism into our lives and relationships.
Romance is propelled into the erotic zone by Jupiter. Mars and Venus fall in love with each other, and slip lightly like a feather, into the fluid Yin-Yang circle of Tao, under the expansive gaze of Jupiter. The mental, spiritual, sensual elements tango together in great delight within Jupiter's enthusiasm. If you are comfortable with the way Mars shows up in your relationships, congratulations! If you want to want to spice up the wattage in your love life consider the Mars Jupiter link. It will help you meet your love interest in new ways and places.
Jupiter takes dating and relating to a spiritual level. For instance, if you have Jupiter in Capricorn, your perspective on life will be practical, and love will include all levels of life. Your career knows no limits and you tend to expand the careers of others. In Cancer, Jupiter is considered exalted. Your love for nurturing is of goddess proportions, even if you are male. With Jupiter in Gemini, you will have multiple talents and the ability to communicate something of value through them. Jupiter in Aries activates clarity and the pioneering spirit. In Aries, you are kept on the leading edge wherever it is in your chart.
Knowing about Venus (last blog), Mars, and Jupiter in ourselves and those with whom we get involved can pave the path to greater ease, minimal power struggles, and more fruitful matches.
These are, of course, useful generalizations. Each person is richly complex. Specific details in our personal birth chart will sharpen personal reality.
